A critical milestone to start analysing risks in Belgium related to climate change and biodiversity loss
This methodological framework is the result of a collaboration between the consortium (composed by ICEDD, VITO, Mobius, Ramboll and ULiège) and Cerac, combining a review of (inter)national approaches, agreed options, and implementation guidance for the actual assessment.
In 2025, we will implement our methodology to provide an in-depth and forward-thinking assessment of the risks linked to climate change and biodiversity loss for Belgium.
Through a comprehensive literature review, we will systematically explore existing risks within five major systems for Belgium: Ecosystems, Food, Infrastructure, Humans & Health, and the Economy. These initial analyses will be reinforced by engaging discussions with stakeholders from various sectors through interviews, workshops, and Delphi surveys.
At the end of this analysis, we will prioritize the most critical risks. The outcomes of this assessment will result in first recommendations for the National Security Council and will provide valuable insights into existing knowledge gaps, guiding the needs for further analyses and research.
With this First Risk Assessment, we are preparing a resilient and future-proof Belgium, well-prepared to face the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.
