Climate change could have a significant impact on Belgium's economic activity, with a potential GDP loss of 2.8% to 5% by 2050. This would subsequently put pressure on the sustainability of public finances, with public debt projected to increase by 15 percentage points of GDP under a severe warming scenario. The fiscal adjustments needed to absorb this impact are estimated to be between 0.7% and 1.4% of GDP. These figures, however, do not incorporate the effects of acute, unpredictable natural disasters. These are the findings of a study conducted by Cerac and the Federal Planning Bureau (FPB).
