The Belgian Climate Risk Assessment Center (Cerac) is pleased to invite you to the event “Understanding Climate Risks: Joining Forces for a More Resilient Europe. National and European climate risk assessments as a foundation for better risk management”. It offers a unique opportunity to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices on climate risk assessment among experts and stakeholders.

📅 Join us on 3 February 2026

📍FPS Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment, Avenue Galilée 5 box 2, 1210 Brussels
🕤10:00 AM – 12:30 AM

⚠️ Due to limited capacity, participation will be confirmed upon registration.

The event will highlight the importance of robust climate risk analysis across Europe as a foundation for effective adaptation strategies and resilience planning. It will notably include the presentation of various national climate risk assessments inspired by the European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA), such as the Belgian Climate Risk Assessment (BCRA) or the National Climate Change Risk Assessment of Ireland (NCCRA).

During this event, we will explore the critical role of translating scientific evidence into actionable policies and emphasize how robust risk analysis underpins informed decision-making throughout the entire risk management cycle.

Your contribution will also help advance the dialogue on strengthening Europe’s capacity to adapt to climate-related risks, by informing the upcoming integrated framework for European climate resilience and risk management.

What is the BCRA?

In the BCRA report, Cerac describes the 28 main risks related to climate change and to ecosystems degradation in Belgium. These are split into five categories: economy, health and well-being, food, ecosystems, and infrastructure & buildings.

Among the risks identified as urgent are the effects of heat on health, the impact of flooding on buildings, the emergence of zoonotic diseases, and threats to food production. If these are not anticipated and managed, they will severely undermine social cohesion and pose growing challenges in terms of security.

The BCRA report was drawn up on the basis of a rigorous analysis of existing scientific literature and consultation with over 250 experts. It is aligned with the methodology used for the European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA), conducted by the European Environment Agency (EEA). Each risk was assessed on the basis of its projected severity, according to multiple global warming scenarios (+2°C, +3°C and +4°C), the confidence in the assessment of the severity of the risk and the degree of policy readiness.
